Concept Statement

The concept for the boutique hotel in Rogers, AR is “where IMpossible lives”.

Rogers slogan is “where possible lives”. The town is in a transition between old and new and quickly developing. The city of Rogers has come a long way since the railroad and Civil War days. It seems like they have made the impossible (economy, historical challenges, etc.), possible.

The concept’s significance is embodied in the form and shape of the spaces. The spaces will alter the user’s perception and the way they see a space. The mix of curved and straight lines will help develop these spaces, shapes and form. Bold and saturated colors will help differentiate between public and private spaces and serve as visual pathways to help guide the user through the space and focus attention on important areas.  The contrast of color, value and light will also serve as visual pathways, transition spaces and contribute to the feel of “impossible”. Spaces will be small and intimate in size yet adequate to fit the user’s needs. Balance will be barely present to achieve an “absurd” yet comfortable feel.

A mix of principles and elements will help the user visualize the space as absurd, quirky and impossible but comfortable and achievable at the same time.

My concept is:
  • bold
  • comfortable
  • perspective
  • rhythmical
  • quirky
  • paradoxical
  • illusionist
  • visionary
  •  rare
My concept is not:
  • bland
  • intimidating
  • flat
  • uniform
  • boring
  • normal
  • realistic
  • uninspirational
  • usual
